Places in Lagos| Rye Restaurant

Rye is a contemporary restaurant located inside Nordic Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos. The restaurant began operations in February 2022 and it had been on my radar since March.

I finally stopped by with my friend, Damola last weekend and here’s how it went.

AMBIENCE
The restaurant occupies a huge space on the ground floor. It’s welcoming and inviting, decorated with fancy light fittings, mirrors and art. It has both indoor and outdoor (poolside) seating. The indoor has a mix of low, booth, and high chairs, while the outdoor is a more relaxed setting with sun loungers and bench seats.

MENU
The food menu is categorised into ten sections. Each section has between three to nine meal options. I especially like the hearty bowls section and ordered something from there. The drinks menu has a decent amount of cocktail options which are reasonably priced.

WHAT WE ORDERED
Damola and I both ordered fresh juice to start. I chose pineapple and she asked for orange juice. For starters, we chose Baja Taco. For mains, I chose California Chicken and Damola chose the Nordic Burger.

The tacos were delicious. The fish was crispy and sauced right. We had asked how many tacos were in the portion and were told two, but it turned out to be three. We enjoyed them and had no complaints.

Our mains came not long after. I was sceptical about my hearty California Chicken bowl when I saw it. Call me a typical Nigerian, but I asked if it could be made spicy when I ordered it. The waiter said no, so I asked for pepper sauce. Let’s just say it’s a good thing I asked for pepper because it gave the meal the right kick. I enjoyed it but thought the portion could have been more.

In Damola’s words, “the burger tasted so good👍🏽”. The fries were crunchy and salted.

SERVICE DELIVERY & CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
No one approached us as we walked into the restaurant and chose our seats. After some time, I went to the bar to inform a waiter that we hadn’t been attended to. Damola was served watermelon juice when our drinks came. We reminded the waiter it was meant to be orange, only for her to return to say they were out of orange juice. My pineapple juice didn’t taste fresh; I complained and was told it was, even though there was clearly a bitter aftertaste which Damola attested to.
However, we didn’t have to wait for a long time for our meals to be served and they tasted good. Sitting by the pool was relaxing and breezy and I could easily see myself at the restaurant again. We had a good time.
