It’s my blogversary!
WordPress sent me a notification that I’ve been blogging for nine years and I was like, what? Wow!
Mariam of 25 years ago would never have imagined that she would become a writer. I didn’t enjoy Literature in English in senior secondary school. It was a struggle for me and I honestly didn’t enjoy reading until the year I graduated. Looking back now, I understand that we didn’t have a good teacher and his inability to teach the subject well did not make me appreciate it.
Things changed in university. I began to enjoy reading novels and storytelling became fascinating to me.
I started writing in 2017 and, like I’ve said so many times, it was a self discovery journey. I was obsessed with finding my talent. I didn’t like the fact that I didn’t have something I considered a talent or a special thing I was good at. So I simply started sharing my thoughts, my words, and things that caught my attention or interested me.
Along the way, I received a lot of encouragement and I decided to ride with it.
Did I know I would become an author and publish a poetry collection? No.
Did I know I would even write poetry? No.
Did I know I would become someone people say “bravo” to for her work or find inspirational, motivating, uplifting, or simply amazing? No.
Writing has brought so much joy into my life. It has helped me during times when I was really, really low. It has made me feel like I have a purpose in the world and helped me realize that we all have a unique talent or trait. If we search within ourselves long enough, we will eventually figure it out.
Writing has also shown me that I’m not alone. Not in grief. Not in heartbreak. Not in loneliness. Not in the journey of self discovery, self love, or hope. It has reminded me that many of us are walking through similar experiences, even when it feels like we are the only ones going through them.
Through this journey, I have come to believe that part of my purpose is to help people through my writing.
I am proud of myself and everything I’ve accomplished so far, and I know there is still so much ahead for me. This post is simply to celebrate my writing journey.
Over the years, I’ve written across different topics. From poetry to personal life experiences, travel, restaurant reviews, relationships, books, writing, finances, health, fitness, motivation, and inspiration. I have even shared a few prayers.
I have published 890 posts, including this one.
If you’re reading this, there is one thing I would really love you to do for me today. If you have ever read something on this blog that resonated with you, made you think, made you feel seen, or simply entertained you, please share it with someone else. You can share a post on your WhatsApp status, post it on your Instagram story, drop it in a group chat, or send it directly to someone who might enjoy reading it.
The goal is simple. I want more people to know that this blog exists and that it can be a space they visit when they are bored, when they are feeling low, when they need inspiration, or when they just want to read something thoughtful and different for a few minutes. Your share could help someone discover something they didn’t even know they needed.
Thank you for obliging me, and thank you for your support over the years. It truly means a lot.
Cheers to many more celebrations.
Wow. It’s going to be ten years next year. What are we going to do?If you have any suggestions, let me know.

Mariam Shittu
