Places in Lagos| Thai Thai

As the name suggests, Thai Thai is a Thai restaurant in Victoria Island, Lagos. It’s been existing for many years. They are one of the few restaurants on the island that survived the inflow of competition, COVID-19, inflation, etc.

I had been to Thai Thai once or twice in the past, but it was a really long time ago, and I don’t remember much about my time there or what I even ate. Fast forward to this year, I stopped by Thai Thai during Ramadan with my friend D for Iftar, and I had a swell time.

AMBIENCE

The restaurant is located in an apartment building. It’s a small and intimate place decorated minimalistic with brown wood-coloured furniture with green and brown tones and a lot of greenery. There’s a bar area, a main sitting area and a balcony.

MENU

I like how fun and colourful the menu design is. The food menu is categorized into eight sections with a minimum of three options per section. The drink menu is nice, with a collection of signature drinks, tea, coffee and non-alcoholic drinks.

WHAT WE ORDERED

For starters, who chose Fried Chicken Bao Buns and Steamed Nahim Jim Prawn Dumplings. For mains, I chose Beef Drunken Noodles and D chose Special Fried Rice and Beef in Chili Sauce. For drinks, we started with soda and still water, then D chose Don’t Drink and Drive, and I chose the OG Goji (non-alcoholic). When we were done eating, we ordered new drinks. I decided to try the Thai Iced Tea with as little sugar as possible and D chose the alcoholic version of the OG Goji with an extra shot of gin.

I was hungry on this day, and the food took a hot minute before they arrived, but once one item got served, the others followed. Before you proceed, please note that the photos in this review aren’t very clear. The lightning in the space did not agree with my phone’s camera.

The dumplings were served first. They were yummy and devoured quickly. The baobao buns came after. D had said he wasn’t interested in them but after eating the dumplings and seeing me enjoy the bun, he picked the second one up and loved it. It was crispy yet tender and fufiling.

We didn’t wait long before our mains arrived. I had been eyeing the drunken noodles on Instagram for a while now so I had really high expectations. I’m happy I didn’t get disappointed. It was so good, spicy with the right number of vegetables. I smiled with every mouthful. I was super stuffed but kept on eating.

D enjoyed his meal as well though he had to pack about half of it to go. I tried some of the rice and the sauce and it was interestingly tasty.

Though I wanted to try the popular thai dessert-mango sticky rice, there was no space in my belly for it. So I enjoyed my iced tea and we called it a night.

SERVICE DELIVERY & CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

We were welcomed warmly right from the parking lot. Our waiter was helpful with the menu options and made sure to confirm our spice levels. We had no issue with any of our orders and absolutely had a great time.
