Hey there,
When was the last time you went to the hospital for a routine check-up instead of because you were feeling sick? As you all know, I’m no medical expert, but I know that periodic health checks are life savers.
I began getting yearly routine check-ups in 2018. Before my Mum’s passing, I only visited the hospital when I had been unwell for several days, and over-the-counter medications weren’t effective. My Mum passed away in 2017 after suddenly falling ill. Despite receiving treatment, she never recovered until she was diagnosed with late-stage pancreatic cancer. I strongly believe that if she had undergone regular check-ups, they might have detected something that needed further investigation, possibly giving her more time. Her passing made me realize that I needed to take my health more seriously.
Since then, I’ve prioritised my overall health (physical, mental, emotional, social), but today we’re focusing on physical. Every year, I schedule a checkup, and I check everything. Hospitals here make it easy because they have packages you can choose from based on age and gender. You can also ask questions and get add-ons if you feel like a package doesn’t have everything you need.
My health check in 2022 revealed that I was anaemic, and I was placed on iron medication. In 2023, my tests revealed that I was no longer anaemic, and I stopped taking them. This year’s health check was done in June, and I just got my dental check done this month. I feel great about the positivity, even though I’m mindful that this may not be the case for so many other people.
The truth is that many people may be sick inside and feel well on the outside. Many individuals are walking around with illnesses of which they are unaware. It’s better to know than not to know. Even though it may involve uncomfortable things like giving blood or urine samples, revealing private information or undergoing physical examinations, it’s necessary. If cost is a significant barrier to seeking help, consider exploring health insurance options. When it comes to expenses, medical costs should take priority over leisure expenses, so prioritize your health today.
Don’t wait until you lose someone to prioritize your health.
