Chai Tang is one of the OG Chinese restaurants in Lagos, tucked away at Twin Waters, Victoria Island. It has been around for many years, and it’s one of those spots that doesn’t need to shout to stay relevant. Nigerians love Chinese food, and as long as your location is right and your food remains consistent, you’ll always have loyal customers — and Chai Tang fits that bill perfectly.
I stopped by for lunch with my friend Sam in April, and here’s how it went.
AMBIENCE
Chai Tang sits on the top floor of the Twin Waters building, offering a sweeping view of Victoria Island, Lekki Phase 1 and the ocean. The restaurant is massive — there are seats for days. Indoors, it’s a formal dining setup with polished elegance, while the outdoor area feels more relaxed and casual, perfect for catching the breeze.

MENU
The food menu is extensive — 17 categories with at least two dishes per category. I couldn’t capture everything, but trust me, the options go on and on. There’s also a separate dim sum menu packed with choices (yum!).
The drinks list is just as impressive — cocktails, wines, spirits, cognac, soft drinks, mocktails, and more. Whether you’re here for food or just to sip, they’ve got you covered.

WHAT WE ORDERED
We decided to share:
House Special Seafood Fried Rice
Stir-Fried Prawns in Black Bean Sauce
Steamed Mixed Vegetables
For drinks, we kept it simple with still water for Sam and soda water for me.
Our food arrived hot about 30 minutes later, and it didn’t disappoint. The seafood rice and prawns were delicious, and the vegetables (though not Sam’s favourite) paired beautifully with both. I enjoyed them so much that I went back for seconds and even asked the waiter to pack up the rest of the veggies for me to take home.

SERVICE DELIVERY & CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
For a restaurant that has been around for years, Chai Tang is well-maintained. It’s easy to find, and being in a mall means there’s ample underground and outdoor parking.
Our waiter was attentive and helpful in recommending dishes. When we first arrived, there was no power, so we had to wait a bit for the generator to come on. We were informed that this is done during off-peak weekday hours to conserve energy. It wasn’t too big a deal, but worth noting. During our stay, the restaurant was fairly quiet — just one other table was occupied.
