Sabor is a contemporary restaurant in Lagos that began operations in 2018. They were located on Adeola Hopewell Road in VI and occupied the same space that used to be 411 Restaurant before they took over. Sabor got a bigger and better space, remodelled and moved its location in December 2022. They are now situated at Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island.

I didn’t review the old restaurant but had been there a few times. So I was happy to stop by Sabor last weekend with my friends; D and S. It was the perfect opportunity to finally write a review.

AMBIENCE

The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere with brown-toned furniture, decor and light fittings. It has three seating areas; ground floor, top floor and poolside. My friends were sitting upstairs when I arrived, but I made us move downstairs because I wasn’t feeling the dim lighting of the space. The restaurant also has indoor and outdoor private event spaces for small and intimate events.

MENU

The food menu is categorized into six sections, with at least two options per section. The drinks menu is adequate, with a vast selection of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks for everyone. I like one-page menus that don’t have too many items like theirs. It makes it easy to select meals on the part of the customer, and easy for them to prep meals on the part of the kitchen.

WHAT WE ORDERED

For drinks, we chose Soda Water, Bitter Lemon and still water. To start, we ordered the Thai Style Veggie spring rolls, which came in four pieces. For Mains, D chose the Lamb Jungle Yellow Curry. S chose Seafood Scampi, and I chose Half Roasted Butter Chicken. We skipped dessert.

Our drinks came first, and not long after, the spring rolls arrived. They were hot, fresh and crunchy, and we had no complaints. The mains were served together some minutes later, and we dug into our respective meals. The chicken was tender to cut, and I could taste the blend of spices in every bite. The vegetables were properly sauteed, and the potatoes were just right. Simi enjoyed her pasta and had no complaints, but Damola didn’t enjoy her curry because the sauce was sweet.

SERVICE DELIVERY & CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

We were welcomed at reception and ushered to our seats. Our assigned waiter was friendly and readily available when needed. We didn’t have to wait too long for our orders to be served. The restaurant also offers complimentary valet parking, which is a nice plus. The only con was that a private event was happening while we were at the restaurant, and the group was quite loud. Overall, we had a good time at Sabor.
