Gras is a fine dining cuisine and shisha lounge in the heart of Victoria Island, Adeola Odeku, Lagos. The restaurant began operations in June 2023, and it quickly became the talk of town. Everyone kept asking me if I had been to Gras. I was waiting and anticipating until I finally went in August. However, this review focuses on my second time at Gras in October.

AMBIENCE
Gras occupies the same building as a boutique, an automobile dealership, and other businesses. The restaurant is on the top floor, and as you exit the elevator, you see a vintage silver Rolls-Royce with the plate number – Gras. Cool right?
Then you’re ushered into the restaurant, a medley of green, cream and brown hues. The space is ample and dreamy, and you enjoy a city view through the windows. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating and can seat many people.

MENU
The food menu is categorized into ten sections, with a minimum of two options per section. The drinks menu is adequate, with a vast selection of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks and many specials. When I went in June, there was a starter on the menu that cost more than 60,000, but I was happy to see the prices were reviewed, and the items seemed more reasonably priced. I guess they had some complaints. I took photos of the menu, but the beautiful ceiling light fittings reflected on the menu, so it affected the quality.

WHAT WE ORDERED
For drinks, I chose La La Land because I loved it the first time, and D had two cocktails, Strawberry Mojito and Gras of Heaven. We ordered Chicken Caesar Salad, Quinoa Duck Salad, Chicken Tarragon and African Chicken Suya for food.
Our drinks were served moments later. We requested that our meals be served when ready so the salads and Chicken Tarragon came together, and the suya much later.

The Caesar salad is the best I’ve ever had, and trust me, I’ve eaten a lot of Caesar salads in many countries around the world. It was fresh and right. The duck salad was also yummy. I dislike quinoa but didn’t mind it in the salad. Up next was the chicken tarragon, which was chicken breast and mash. The mash was smooth, but the chicken was just okay. It didn’t wow us like the other meals. D liked the suya when it was served and thought it was okay. At that point, I was too stuffed even to have a taste.

SERVICE DELIVERY AND CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
We had a great time at Gras. The service was good, and our waiter was charming, helpful and attentive. Wait times were decent, and we had no complaints. In addition, when I went to the restroom, the staff offered to take my photos. I had a mini photoshoot, and she was super patient. The entire staff was properly dressed and looked well taken care of. Also, the restaurant offers a free valet parking service, so you don’t have to worry about parking.
