Places in Lagos| Chapter

Chapter is a modern Indian restaurant located in Victoria Island, Lagos. I stopped by Chapter for dinner with my friend, Simi, during Ramadan and here’s how it went.

AMBIENCE

The restaurant, situated on the fourth floor of an apartment complex, offers a comfortable dining experience. As I walked in, a friendly staff member escorted me to where Simi was waiting. The space, adorned with dim lighting, greenery, black-and-white decorative tones, and nude-coloured furniture, was a pleasing sight. The seating is a mix of single chairs and booth seats—just the way I like it. Simi wondered if I would get good photos for my review then I reminded her about the camera “flash”.

MENU

The drink menu is rich with a collection of regular and signature cocktails. The food menu is categorized into six sections with three options per section. You’d think this would have made it easy for us to decide, but we still asked the waiter for help.

WHAT WE ORDERED

For drinks, we chose bitter lemon, soda water and still water. For starters, we chose the Chili Ginger Fish and Pulled Lamb Tacos. For mains, we chose Smoked Butter Chicken Curry, Basmati Rice, Garlic Cilantro Naan and Butter Naan.

Chili Ginger Fish & Pulled Lamb Tacos

Our meal was promptly served, and we wasted no time in indulging. The Fish, oh my, was a culinary masterpiece. It was undoubtedly the highlight of our dining experience. The tacos, while a tad salty, were still devoured.

Up next was the curry, rice and naan. I’ve tried this combination at different places before, and the butter chicken served here tasted similar. The cilantro garlic naan was obviously the better naan. However, we could not finish the rice as we were already full, but we made sure to savor the chicken pieces in the sauce and all the bread.

SERVICE DELIVERY & CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

Simi and I had a good time at Chapter, though the experience was nicer before it got busy. Our waiter was polite and helpful, and he even adjusted the AC temperature without hesitation when we needed it. The restaurant has provisions for parking, both indoor and outdoor, directly in front of the building.

The restaurant offers a special cocktail service, which allows you to get six cocktails at a reduced rate. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to try this, but almost everyone at the restaurant came solely for this purpose because drinks kept getting served back to back, and our waiter was MIA when we were ready to pay. We left the restaurant hurriedly after sorting our bill because we no longer felt comfortable in the space.
