A Desire For Authenticity

A Desire For Authenticity

I don’t want cream,
and neither do I want sugar
I desire originality
something real and true

Not a mere enhancement
but in the purest form
unique and rich in texture
essence and taste

I long for truth
unmasked, genuine and clear
with no masks, embellishment or deception
that’s unreal and insincere

So I don’t want cream
and neither do I want sugar
What I seek is simple
I want authenticity

Mariam Shittu

I had the words “I don’t want cream and neither do I want sugar” in my notepad for monthssss. I didn’t know where I was going to go with it, but I finally figured it out. Hoping to publish more new poems this month. Thanks for stopping by.

About Me

I’m Mariam — writer, explorer, observer of life’s quiet and loud moments. I started this blog in March 2017 as a self-discovery space, and over the past eight years, it has grown into a home for everything that moves me and hopefully, something that moves you too. Here, you will find poetry, reflections, travel stories, lifestyle pieces, motivation, inspiration and Lagos restaurant reviews all written with honesty and heart. Enjoy!
