Blacks and Cooper’s is a restaurant situated in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. It is owned by the same team behind Crust Cafe. The restaurant began operations towards the end of 2024 and quickly became a popular spot to grab a bite to eat during Detty December.
I stopped by Blacks and Cooper’s with my friend’s cousin, Tomi, in December and here’s how it went.

AMBIENCE
The restaurant’s exterior features a stylish combination of black and grey, which are both colours I love. The ground floor has a café-like atmosphere, with a mix of single seats, booth seating, and high stools at the bar, all adorned in shades of grey, black, dark green, and white. The first floor offers a quieter, more traditional restaurant vibe with minimalist decor to accentuate the space.
We visited on a Sunday afternoon for brunch, and the place was packed. We waited for over an hour before being seated and almost another hour before our food arrived.
MENU
The food menu is extensive, featuring twenty whole categories with at least four options in each section. A significant portion of the menu is dedicated to all-day breakfast options. The drinks menu also offers a wide variety, including standard café-style hot and cold beverages, cocktails, smoothies, and shakes.

WHAT WE ORDERED
For drinks, we decided to try their signature cocktails. Tomi chose Kiwi in Downtown, while I went with Fiddler on the 5th. For food, we both wanted pancakes. I ordered the Pancakes and Chicken meal, and Tomi opted for the Oreo Crunch Pancakes, which came with eggs, bacon, and sausages. I also added a side of sautéed vegetables to include some greens in my meal.
While we waited for our food, Tomi and I caught up, and thankfully, we had plenty to talk about while sipping our drinks.
After what felt like an eternity, our food was finally served, and we eagerly dug in. My pancakes were fluffy and not overly sweet, just how I like them. However, the chicken was bland; it wasn’t crunchy or juicy at all. Tomi enjoyed her pancakes and had no complaints about her sides.

SERVICE DELIVERY AND CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
The restaurant was quite busy, and the staff appeared flustered, but they still accommodated us. The manager or owner stopped by several times to reassure us, and some other guests who noticed our wait helped make us feel more comfortable. While the service was slow and the food was average, I liked the restaurant’s location and ambience, as well as the engraved plates. I’d like to return when it’s not during the holidays to see if the experience improves.
