Through the tears,
the prayers,
and the long sad nights,
something has to give.
Everybody thinks you are fine.
Is it not you?
The one who has their life together,
the one who is always there
for everyone.
But who is there for you?
You’re screaming out,
yet you realize
you never opened your mouth.
You’ve thought about it.
You have to admit it.
If I’m no longer here,
will they notice,
will they miss me,
will it give me relief?
But you know you can’t do it.
You are stronger
than those thoughts.
So you search for resolve
in the things that keep you grounded,
even while you are choking,
even while you are tired
of the waiting.
Why does it feel
like the end
is nowhere near?
You wish you could
take a peak into the future
to see what life will look like,
just to know
what to do.
But that only happens
in movies.
They say God doesn’t give us
more than we can bear.
You have been bearing,
and the end still feels nowhere near.
Yet even with all of this,
there are still moments
when your mind grows quiet
and your chest loosens.
No screams.
No choking.
Just peace.
And in those moments
you remember
that there is still light
finding its way
through the cracks.
A quiet assurance
that all
will be well
