As the name suggests, The Peppersoup Shop is a peppersoup-focused restaurant that has been in existence for a while but recently opened a physical restaurant and lounge in Lekki Phase 1. I stopped by The Peppersoup Shop in Lekki with my friend, Aisha last weekend.
I didn’t plan to write a review because the restaurant was very busy and I wasn’t able to create a lot of content, but the food was too good for them not to get a shoutout, so here you go.

AMBIENCE
The restaurant is located in a mall and occupies a big section of it, with different seating arrangements including booth seats, single seats and high seats to accommodate as many guests as possible.
I love the attention to detail in the decoration. The tables have a base inspired by local cooking pots, the lighting is housed in wicker baskets, and there are other wood-inspired designs, including a boat-shaped lighting display with fish-shaped light fittings. There’s also a prop peppersoup station that adds to the overall theme.
The utensils, plates, cups and cutlery are all wooden, which ties everything together nicely.
There’s also a statue at the entrance that brings everything together. It’s a shame I didn’t get to photograph the beauty of the place.
MENU
The restaurant is owned by a Kalabari woman, with a focus on Kalabari delicacies, and the menu reflects that.
The food menu is detailed, with eight different categories to choose from. I love how many different peppersoup options are available. I also like that staple classics have been incorporated for people who don’t necessarily want soup.
The drinks menu is the typical menu you’d find in a bukka, with fresh juice, soft drinks, beer and locally made drinks like zobo, tiger nut, palm wine and kuli kuli.

WHAT WE ORDERED
For drinks, we ordered two bottles of palm wine and water. For food, we decided to try three different peppersoup dishes. I chose the Turkey peppersoup, Aisha chose the Assorted peppersoup, and her friend, who joined us, chose the Catfish peppersoup.
As a peppersoup lover and maker, I must commend their peppersoup-making skills. The soup was thick, rich and tasty. Even if you didn’t have any protein in your bowl, you’d still feel nourished. Nonetheless, the turkey was soft and tender. The assorted meat was very assorted, with all kinds of combinations, and the fish peppersoup was equally delicious.

The soups also had different tastes. It was obvious they weren’t just dipping your protein of choice into one big batch of soup. Each one had its own flavour, which I really appreciated. The soup also wasn’t too hot, which I was initially worried about. And it arrived very hot, tasting freshly made. The palm also tasted fresh and sweet. It went down rather quickly. 😂
The other guests that sat on our table ordered Nkwobi. The portion was huge and it looked rich. I Immediately thought about my brother and bringing him here since he’s an Nkwobi lover and loves food as much as I do.
SERVICE AND CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
The restaurant was very busy, and customers had to share tables, so that definitely affected our experience. However, the waiters were diligent and helpful, and our assigned waitress was readily available and intuitive. The food arrived very hot and tasted freshly made, even though we didn’t have to wait too long.
One unique thing I noticed about the restaurant is that after placing your order, you pay immediately rather than at the end of your meal.
Parking is limited since the restaurant is inside a mall. However, cars park along the street if the mall parking is occupied.

FINAL THOUGHTS
The Peppersoup Shop is an ideal place for a quick bite, lunch or dinner, whether you’re going solo, with friends or with family. It’s a casual spot with good food and plenty of variety, so you don’t have to do too much. It does get really busy, though, so that’s something to keep in mind if you don’t enjoy crowded places.
Would I go back? Yes, I would, but not on a Sunday afternoon. I’d like to experience it during the day on a weekday when things are hopefully a little calmer. I’d also try the rice bowl and peppersoup wings.
