Health|Things You Need To Know About Ginger

Ginger is a medicinal and culinary spice/herb that has amazing health benefits and should always be in the house. It’s best fresh but can also be bought ground or chopped which are handy in the kitchen.

Ginger has been used as medicine throughout history and in the 13th and 14th century, 1 lb of ginger cost as much as a sheep. Ginger can be consumed as tea, blended into smoothies/juices or used as spice for dishes.

Some of the benefits of ginger include;

Treatment of Flu

Ginger aids the treatment of cold, flu and sore throat. Slice 20 to 40g of fresh ginger into a cup of water and brew as tea in an earthen pot with some lemon. You can add honey to sweeten if needed. It’s also a way to keep warm when it’s cold.

Improvement of Blood Flow

Ginger is composed of magnesium, chromium and zinc which are known to help improve blood flow in the body.

Relieves Bloating

Ginger is the perfect PMS medicine. How do I know this? because it’s my medicine. It minimizes my discomfort and everyone’s I’ve mentioned it to. Also, if you’re bloated from overfeeding, a cup of ginger tea aids the digestion process.

Relieves Pains/Aches

Since ginger relieves bloating it’s only logical that it also relieves stomach ache. Ginger is more effective in reducing stomach pain including menstrual cramps. Ginger has also been proven to be an effective pain killer.
