Why Do We Say Things We Don’t Mean?

Why Do We Say Things We Don’t Mean?

Why do we say things we don’t mean?

I find myself saying things I don’t mean often not because I wish to lie but more because I have automatic replies I’ve constructed in my head.

I say no worries when I’m carrying worry the weight of an elephant on my mind.

I say no problem when I’ve thought of countless ways why there could be a problem.

I say that’s okay when it’s really not okay but most importantly, I say I’m fine whenever anyone asks me how I’m doing even when I feel like I’m dying inside.

So this one time, I’ll say;

Yes, I mind.
No, I don’t agree.
No, that’s not okay.
No, I’m not fine

Can you relate?

  1. Yes, I can relate totally. Sometimes I do it to avoid long conversations and sometimes it’s just a Wall I’ve constructed but I’ve to do better!

About Me

I’m Mariam — writer, explorer, observer of life’s quiet and loud moments. I started this blog in March 2017 as a self-discovery space, and over the past eight years, it has grown into a home for everything that moves me and hopefully, something that moves you too. Here, you will find poetry, reflections, travel stories, lifestyle pieces, motivation, inspiration and Lagos restaurant reviews all written with honesty and heart. Enjoy!
