POEM| Damn You Insecurities

I see my reflection in the mirror
and tears trickle down my face

Am I pretty
I’m not so sure

Am I confident
I’m not so sure

Am I good enough
I’m not so sure

I stare at my reflection in the mirror
and I feel uncomfortable in my skin

Am I brown enough
I’m not so sure

Am I curvy enough
I’m not so sure

Am I tall enough
I’m not so sure

Am I smart enough
I’m not so sure

I take another look in the mirror
and I see myself for the first time

Damn you self-doubt
yes I’m enough

Damn you timidity
yes I’m enough

Damn you insecurities
yes I’m enough

This poem was inspired by a true story. One day, someone came to me bearing her heart out. I told her she was enough and made her see why as well. Several weeks later, I asked her permission if I could write about it. Have you ever felt this way? Never forget that you are enough.
