Places in Lagos| Slush Cafe

Slush Cafe is a breakfast and brunch restaurant in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.  I stopped by in June with my friend TJ for brunch, and here’s what went down.

AMBIENCE

The restaurant is a small and cosy space located in a mall. The furniture is minimalist with blush, black, brown, and green tones, and the decor is aesthetically pleasing. A lot was done to make the space beautiful.

MENU

The food menu is categorised into seventeen sections, with a minimum of two options per section. I didn’t take a picture of all the sections, but there’s something for everyone, from sweet to savoury. You can find the full menu on the restaurant’s Instagram page. The drink menu is categorised into fourteen sections, with many options, including regular cafe-type hot and cold drinks, cocktails, smoothies, wine, and shots.

WHAT WE ORDERED

For drinks, I initially asked for a cafe latte, but it wasn’t available, so I settled for a Mocha. TJ chose a bubble milk tea, and we also ordered a bottle of water to share.

For food, we both wanted to try their breakfast meals, so we limited our choices to that section only. I chose Slush Overload Breakfast, and TJ chose Brunch in East London. We asked for the bacon to be replaced with extra sausages as we both don’t eat pork.

The Mocha arrived after a few minutes, but we had to wait a while for our food. The good thing was that the food looked appetizing, so we dug in. There was plenty of food, and we did our best to devour it. I liked the potatoes and steak more than anything else on my plate. I also tried one of TJ’s French toasts while he tried everything on my plate except the sausages (obviously). The French toast was pretty good. TJ’s tea was served when we were almost done eating so he asked for it to be packed to go.

SERVICE DELIVERY & CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

The service at the restaurant was slow, not just for us but for everyone. Although not all the tables were occupied, the waiters seemed flustered. We noticed that the kitchen was small, and the window through which customers’ orders came was within our view. The generator was also loud and not big enough for the energy load of the restaurant, causing the waiters to frequently turn off the ACs and then turn them back on. I understand that starting a business is challenging in Nigeria, but they need to reconsider their current arrangement or find a bigger space. Our waitress was polite and friendly and did her best to make our experience fulfilling. While parking is limited, we didn’t have trouble finding a spot and pulling out.

DAMAGE

Cafe Mocha ~ 5,700
Milk Tea ~ 6,000
Overload Breakfast ~ 15,000
Brunch in East London ~ 13,000

Our total bill was 43,537.50 which included 7.5% VAT
