Keep Your Word to Yourself

Keep Your Word to Yourself

You keep promises
to everyone else.
But break the promises
you made to yourself.

You said
you’d start
last year.
Yet here you are,
still waiting
for the perfect moment.

You said
you’d finish
last month.
But another dream
sits unfinished,
waiting for you
to return.

You said
you’d believe in yourself
this time.
But doubt came back
and you let it
speak for you.

You said
it would never happen again.
But here you are,
facing the same cycle
once more.

Trust isn’t only built
between people.
It is also built
between you
and yourself.

Every promise kept.
Every action taken.
Every time you choose
not to abandon yourself.
That is how
self-trust is built.

So start keeping your word to yourself.

About Me

I’m Mariam — writer, explorer, observer of life’s quiet and loud moments. I started this blog in March 2017 as a self-discovery space, and over the past nine years, it has grown into a home for everything that moves me and hopefully, something that moves you too. Here, you will find poetry, reflections, travel stories, lifestyle pieces, motivation, inspiration and Lagos restaurant reviews all written with honesty and heart. Enjoy!
