Places in Lagos| Ki Bar & Kitchen

Ki is a new Asian restaurant in Victoria Island, Lagos. Ki is the Japenese word for air, atmosphere, heart, mind, spirit, flavour, humor, intention, mind and will. Such a powerful word right?! I stopped by the restaurant on new year’s day with my family for dinner, and here’s how it went.

AMBIENCE
Ki has two bars and sitting areas, indoor and outdoor. The decor is simple and homely, with not too much going on in the space. The lighting is dim and I wasn’t a fan of it because it made my photos not so great.

MENU
The food menu is categorized into ten sections. The menu has a lot of options, and if you’re not familiar with Asian cuisine, it’s easy to get lost in it.

WHAT WE ORDERED

We chose; Pink Ginger, Watermelon Breeze, Passion Fizz, Whiskey Sour & Water for drinks.

For starters, we chose Chilli Crab Meat Soup, Lemongrass and Coriander soup, Chicken/Prawn Suimai (dim sum), Asparagus Tempura and Truffle Butter Mushroom.

For mains, we chose Tiger Prawns in Chili Coriander (not photographed), Red Snapper in Chilli Oil, Stir Fry Vegetables, Seafood Fried Rice, Steamed Jasmine Rice and Fish Yakitori (not photographed).

We shared the food, and all agreed it was generally tasty. The mushrooms and asparagus tempura rolls were the winners for the starters. The sauces were yummy, and though the prawn sauce was served with only three pieces of prawn for 14,000 NGN, my sister ate the entire sauce and kept saying it was delicious. We ordered a lot of food for four people, but there was nothing left to pack home at the end of the night.

SERVICE DELIVERY & CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
Though the restaurant is on a popular road in VI, it’s easy to drive past it because there’s no sign outside, and the restaurant’s building is all the way behind. We had to call, and someone came out to wait by the gate to get us in. Parking is also a hassle. I think it’s best to park outside on the road. However, the service was decent, and our waitress was helpful with our meal choices. I remember her telling me that the initial salad I ordered wasn’t “our regular salad”, and she suggested something else. She also asked if we wanted eggs in our cocktails, and we immediately said no. The restaurant wasn’t full, but it was busy for a new space. We didn’t have to wait forever for our meals to be served and neither were they served cold or tasteless. We almost didn’t stay, but I’m glad we did because it wasn’t a bad experience.

DAMAGE
Chicken and Prawns Suimai ~ 5,000
Truffle Butter Mushroom ~ 6,800
Chili Crab Meat Soup ~ 4,250
Asparagus Tempura ~ 6,000
Lemongrass & Coriander Soup ~ 3,500
Tiger Prawn Chilli Coriander ~ 14,000

Fish Yakitori ~ 7,500
Pink Ginger ~ 5,500
Whiskey Sour ~ 5,000
Watermelon Breeze ~ 2,500

The bill for food and drinks were separated, and a service charge of 10% and VAT of 7.5% were added to both bills. Our total damage was 136,358.75

Ki is quite pricey for a simple and basic restaurant. Though we had a good time and enjoyed our meals, it felt like we spent too much for what we got.

The restaurant is perfect for family gatherings, date-night or a meal with friends. The space is also great for private celebrations.

Out of 10, I rate Ki a 6.

Lovely post. Hope to visit soon.

  3. I was hoping you tried the suya maki roll. I’m always interested in other takes on local dishes, but I’m glad you enjoyed the food.

  4. Lovely post. You’re right, their food is really really tasty, but the quantity of the prawns was too small for the sauce and the price. Also, the plating could be better. I really loved the food.
