IWD 2022: Celebrating Women Through Poetry

Happy International Women’s Day!

The theme for this year’s women’s day campaign is Break the Bias. Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.

I wrote five poems this year to celebrate women’s day and women’s history month. See them below;

1. WE ARE WOMEN

big breasts
small buttocks
wide hips
flat stomachs
We’re all different
and yet the same
We are women

2. SHE IS WOMAN

She is sure
She is brave
She is resilient
She is woman

3. CONQUEROR

She conquered her fears
and changed the world

4. HER INFLUENCE

There’s a woman
in every man’s story

5. A PRAYER FOR WOMEN

I said a prayer today
for all the women in the world
who have been hurt
because they loved
who work extra hard
to prove themselves
who are ignored
undervalued and unappreciated
who are resilient
and keep showing up
I said a prayer today
for all the women in the world
that their dreams and wishes come true
